SCOTTISH COMMUNITY FOUNDATION
These grants are funded by a wide range of individuals,
companies and charitable trusts, all with variety of interests. They specialise in directing their funding to exceptional
small charities and community groups.
The grants programmes are divided in to four categories including:
Scotland-wide programmes
Express Grants (up to £2,000)
The Express Grants programme offers one-off awards of between
£250 and £2,000 to fund activities for up to 12 months. To have the most impact, these programmes support relatively
small organisations with an income of less than £250,000 per year. These grants are available to fund projects, equipment
or activities where our contribution will be at least 25% of the total cost.
Scottish Community Foundation Grants
Invertay Social Investment Fund (ISIF) can offer loans of up to £50,000 to social enterprises and other voluntary
organisations at a repayment rate which would be negotiated but be based on the organisation’s financial situation.
The repayment rate can be as low as 1.5% above base rate, much more attractive than what banks would charge.
Social Investment Scotland (SIS), can offer larger loans
of up to £200,000 to the same organisations at a fixed rate of 8%, and they may work with ISIF in jointly financing
a loan greater than ISIF’s £50,000 maximum.
Such opportunities are certainly worthy of consideration by organisations involved in trading or with the
collateral to enable them to take out a loan. The offers come from bodies which know the voluntary sector well and are part
of it, and ISIF has voluntary sector representation on its Board. For further information, contact Harry Terrell of ISIF (tel. 01382 542085; e-mail
harryterrell@hotmail.co.uk); Pierre Stadnik of SIS (tel. 0131 558 2335; e-mail PierreStadnik@socialinvestmentscotland.com); or myself.
